Just a view on the world that i posted somewhere else. =) Its part GP and part Geog and part Econs.. Hahaz..
Hello everyone!! Haha.. It is such an interesting read, seeing all that everybody has contributed. Time for me to share something too. (If not too selfish!! Haha.)If i had to support or lead any cause for the world, my cause would be simply that of humanitarian. What i mean by that is simply to instill into every single person a sense of need or urgency to help those that are less fortunate than themselves. From bev's post that showed that the world's total money could support a cool ten times of our current population, my question is really where has all these money gone to? What's the cause that is keeping this obscene amount of money away from the ones that need it the most?I guess TNCs and the capitalist countries are the ones that are owning part of this amount of money. For self interest i would say. So compared to the suffering of those in the third world countries we are living in pure heavenly environment. Humanitarian. Helping those less fortunate than us. Just in Singapore, I would like to educate the people about the plight of the handicapped. It can be my vested interest. haha... I feel sorry for these people. To be born interlectually disabled or physically disabled is not their choice, yet they have to live with the disability, the humilation, the discrimination, for their whole entire lives! They are also part of the human race! Is there a problem of treating them as part of us?I've seen so many people looking down on them. The use of totally insensitive language to discribe others condition shocked me. It made me feel as though the technologies of life, the whole thing about globalisation, has really numbed us to the feelings of others. We are more concerned about the efficiency of workers, about having a 'normal' workforce... What about those with disabilities? Thay are just left to rot by the side of this fast paced highway that we call 'economic growth'. How fair is that??My cause would include the distribution of wealth to the poor and needy, porvision of healthcare to the world (especially the third world countries who need it more than anyone else), the education of people in terms of the plight of others, and of course my vested interest(!!) to make lives of the disabled a little more comfortable by neing sensitive to their needs. In the mids of such fierce competition brought about by globalisation, we need to keep sane and keep our mind on things that truly matter. In any case, that things that truly matter should not be topped by $$. That is the worst gauge of happiness. Humanitarian...=)What do you think?? Agree? Heex!
